Anna’s Past by Priyanka Hasija

review anna's past/quillofthephoenix

One of the first books I read this year was “Anna’s Past” by Priyanka Hasija.

What the book is about.

Have you ever wanted to escape your past? Anna Martin has. Anna’s life is far from perfect. Her fiancé is cheating on her, she hates her job, the loss of a loved one hangs heavy on her conscience and her heart is still hung up on her one true love, Ryan.

She heads to Azula, her hometown, where things only start getting more complicated. Anna starts seeing ghosts of her past versions, who are adamant to get her life on track. There are secrets and guilt laced in her past that keep her from accepting love and chasing dreams.

Will Anna let go of the past and step into the present or will she allow the years gone by to keep her captured in misery? You’ll meet the lovely Azulians, participate in a festival of love, cozy up reading about a legend, and help Anna reunite with her own true self.

About the author.

Priyanka Hasija is a 23 year old writer and poet. You can read my review of her book “Mismatch “ here. Her work has been published in Hindvasi, the oldest Sindhi newspaper . She is a PYP homeschool teacher at a leading International school in Mumbai and also runs her own creative writing classes.

Her dream is to build a world full of book lovers and when she is not writing she is either reading or going for walks to meet the cats around the place.

My review.

The book is amazing. There is no other word for it. The author has created the whole new world of Azula within the pages of her book and it is populated with many characters from different walks of life. As you read the book you feel you are there in Azula, taking part in their daily life, sharing their joys and disappointments.

The story is not just a run of the mill love story. It is a journey of self discovery. The ghosts of Anna’s past make it a very intriguing read and I was eager to know when they would show up next and what they would teach her.

For a 23 year old, the author has shown a depth of understanding of human nature that is rare even in people much older than her. If this is how she writes at this age, I can only wonder at her future books. We have a rising star in the making!

  1. thank you for the review .. makes our selection quick

  2. Sounds good! Now you’ve piqued my interest, but the publisher hasn’t made the book available in the U. S., unfortunately.
Are these ghosts of her former self anything like the ghosts of “A Christmas Carol”?

    1. They are and they are not. She has shut off her mind to something in the past and they come to help her remember and heal.
The book is good but the publishers are terrible. They have made a mess of the format of the book. And I really did think the cover could have been so much better. They also forced the author to get 180 preorders for the book before even printing it. I really wonder why they have kept it only to India. They haven’t even created an e book version.
