This Christmas, I gave myself a treat. I read this book of poems. And it was indeed a treat.
The poems are straight from the heart. Most of them are heart wrenching and make your heart go “Ouch!” But then there are a few of them which have an unexpected twist at the end, that make you laugh out loud too.
“Heartbroken” is a poem that talks about the angst of a mother of a special needs child. “Chained” speaks of a spirit that wants to fly while chained down with responsibilities. “Identity” talks about the person we are versus the person that others think we are.
I tried really hard to decide which my favourite poem was. I would choose one and then stumble upon another and say, “No, this one is better.” In the end I just gave up because each of them was so beautiful that I loved them all.
